Objectives |
In order to improve our understanding of the epidemiology and impact of liver disease, and to enhance our ability to institute effective means of diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of liver disease at the population level, the establishment of a well-designed research database with adequate funding is crucial. Additionally, an appropriate organizational structure, staffed with qualified personnel, is a key ingredient to accomplish such objectives. |

Although some of these requirements are already in place, a continued ...... Read more |

Overview |
SOLID "The Saudi Observatory Liver-Diseases Registry" is a national, multi-center, observational, open-label group of medical registries designed to electronically capture data, manage, monitor, and |

report liver disease patients' outcomes treated in both institutional and private medical centers from across all regions of Saudi Arabia.
The main goal of the SOLID registry is to collect data and accumulate experience related to the most common liver diseases seen within the kingdom, to evaluate current clinical practices, identify opportunities to improve the quality-of-care for patients with liver disease, facilitate clinical research by providing data, help develop diagnostic and therapeutic clinical guidelines and provide real-life information for health care planners within the Kingdom vis-a-vis estimation of disease burden and future needs and costs.
The registry is designed to be a non-experimental project, where all enrolled patients are expected to be treated according to current routine hospital practice and standards of care. |

Ethical Considerations |
An ethics approval letter will be obtained from the ethics committee of each individual participated hospital.
Despite the fact that patients' names & identities are unidentified during SOLID research and all submitted data will remain encrypted from data entry to data analysis and publications,
A consent form is to be collected from each individual patient enrolled in the registry |

Organization Structure |
Several medical entities are integrated in SOLID registries and represented by the principal coordinating center, steering committee, participating hospitals, co-investigators, research assistants, and database coordinators. |
The coordinating center is chaired by Drs. Ayman Abdo and Faisal Sanai - the SOLID administrators - and located in the Liver Disease Research Center, King Saud University - Riyadh. |
SOLID Registry Diseases |
Four major liver diseases are included in SOLID project : - Hepatitis B - Hepatitis C - Hepatocellular Carcinoma - NASH Liver Each liver disease is individually researched & has its own electronic registry.
The integrity of those registries will yield a significant database, resulting in better informed judgments and decisions about the appropriate hepatic care to reduce disease related morbidity and mortality. |
